About Me

Hey there,
my name is Gabriel.

I design learner-focused experiences that combine creative problem-solving with technical capability.

With a foundation in teaching and certifications in programming and web development, I build learning experiences and software that are thoughtful, engaging, and made to last.

Learner-Centered Design

My decade of experience working one-on-one with private music students has shaped how I think about learning.

I find that every student is unique, and it's important to tailor instruction and learning experiences to meet their specific goals and needs.

Clarity and Accessibility

Clean UI and broad accessibility are crucial for an effective learning experience. They allow more people to participate and lower cognitive load.

My time as the webmaster for a nonprofit and my certificates in computer programming and JavaScript have pushed me to create accessible and responsive UI experiences for all my projects because older and younger members need to be able to use the applications.

Gamification and Scenario-Based Learning

Making learning interactive, engaging, and immersive is a key principle I use to create effective training.

This includes dynamic visuals, engaging content blocks, gamification, and scenario-based learning. I strive to add immersion to every experience I create.

Work Experience

Instructional Designer —
Graduate Assistant

As a graduate assistant for the Instructional Design & Technology program, I worked on a team to develop multiple learning experiences for real-world clients. These projects include:

  • A fourteen-module First Year Seminar online course for the university, built in Brightspace. I led the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion module, as well as the Health & Wellness and Financial Wellness modules.
  • Six training modules on effective research strategies for the CU Library, built in Articulate Rise.
  • Three software training modules on how to use FileZilla servers as a student.

Each project consisted of core instructional design processes such as:

  • Conducting interviews with subject matter experts (SME) and clients to inform the development process
  • Completing a task analysis and aligning course objectives using Bloom's Taxonomy
  • Writing assessments that correspond to the learning goals of each module
  • Creating a full content script for each module that outlines course pacing, activities and interactions
  • Storyboarding and developing the final course to be used on an LMS
  • Submitting deliverables to peers and clients for review and making changes when necessary
